Why Blogging is a Good Idea

The keyboard is telling you something...

Isn’t it funny; we log in to enter a blog post, and the dashboard asks ‘would you like to blog more this year?’  Hint, anyone?

So what’s up with blogging? And why is it a good idea for creatives and business owners?

  • For business, blogging can help with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization); the numbers game means that the more times your business name is seen and in more places online, the higher up the Google food chain you go (yes, it’s more complicated than that, but it’s a component)
  • Blogging gives you a voice! As a business entity or a creative individual, giving your product a personality helps customers and potential clients connect with you. It’s also a little sexier than a standard email or newsletter.
  • Blogging adds VALUE! We all like to feel like we’re getting an insider’s view on our favorite places or products, and a blog can be a way to offer that insight. Make the information useful, and people will keep coming back for more.
  • Blogging showcases your talent! For journalists, designers and creatives, blogging adds spice to an online portfolio; it makes it a living, breathing entity and shows that you’re engaged with your audience. A great example of this is master floral designer, Preston Bailey. Even if you have zero interest in flowers, his blog offers advice for business owners, dealing with insecurities and even personal insights into his life. Oh, and you may just get some idea of his work too, but Preston’s blog is about more than shifting product.

For tips, check out how corporations are making the most of their blogs. What’s stopping you from starting your blog? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

If you’re ready to take the plunge, join us on Saturday January 29th for the ‘Building Your Brand in the Blogosphere’ workshop! We’ll take you through choosing your blog platform, getting to grips with content and how to make the best of networks and contacts.
